Since 2003 GWEST has collaborated with Calgary based FirstEnergy Capital Corporation, a leading Canadian investment bank focused on serving the energy market, to produce a quarterly look at the geopolitical conditions that impact oil producers and consumers. FirstInsight (initially called FirstCommentary) also examines the impact of geopolitics on the world natural resources markets as well as the influence of geopolitics on the economic, military, and energy security policies of the U.S. and other world governments.

Over the past five years GWEST has examined such topics as: the coming shift in the energy center of gravity, the paramount importance of security of supply in the era of global terror, OPEC’s relevance in an era of runaway prices, the importance of technological breakthroughs in turning yesterday’s unconventional sources of energy into today’s conventional reserves and the impact of alternative energy on consumer choice.
